In my opinion, it is always better to take precaution than cure. Here I will share some home remedies for your painful dry and cracked lips. Hope, these remedies will help you in soothing your lips.
Drink Plenty of Fluids:
Dehydration is one of the major cause for chapped lips. Drink 8-10 glasses of water every day to get rid of dry lips. The more you drink, the better you feel.
Exfoliate your lips
Exfoliation is best to remove dead skins from your lips but if your lips are cracked badly or bleed, don’t use any kind of scrub on it, otherwise, it’ll worsen the situation. But, if you are suffering from dry lips then you can use any scrub to exfoliate your lips before applying any ointment. Do not rub, massage gently. Here are some home based scrubs:
- Mix Salt with sugar, Add a pinch of coconut oil in it. Apply it on your lip and gently massage in circular motion, rubbing away the dead skin and your lips will feel fresh.
- You can use an exfoliating brush or the best you can use is your toothbrush. Rub it over your lips and the side of your lips to get rid of dead skin.
Don’t Lick or Pick at your Lips
The habit of licking and picking at your lips make the situation worse. Maybe, you feel better when you lick your lips but soon when your saliva evaporates, it dried out your lips. Don’t ever pick your lips, it will lead to bleeding or cold sore.
Apply Lip Balm
Always, be cautious when purchasing a lip balm. The one should not contain harmful chemicals, it is advisable to purchase lip balm which is 100% organic or natural. Read ingredients, before you. Prefer lip balm that contains beeswax, coconut oil, jojoba oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, almond oil or other natural moisturizers. Avoid lip balm that contains any sort of chemical.
Apply natural lip balm 6-7 times a day on your lips and side areas of lips. If the situation is worse, you may increase the frequency of applying lip balm.
For Painful Lips
If your lips make it difficult to smile and are painful for you to open your mouth, try soothing your lips with natural oils like coconut oil, almond oil, olive oil, aloe-Vera gel, and honey. Apply these ingredients 4-5 times a day. Avoid Exfoliation.
Avoid Use of Cosmetics like heavily flavored Lip Balms
Try to use Fluoride Free Toothpaste
Many people have an allergy to fluoride. The fluoride in the toothpaste is harmful to lips as well as for mouth. Switch your toothpaste and notice if you feel any difference.
Try above methods and you will see a difference in a short span of time. Our complete body affects by our surrounding, atmosphere, climate and so our lips as well.
